The Fort Worth Police Department has implemented a new program with the mission to increase effectiveness to assist those in mental health crisis.
The Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) is now utilizing the skills and abilities of a therapy canine.

Radar is a Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) K9 who has been trained to work in the complex physical environments of crisis to assist people experiencing intense emotions and stress in the aftermath. Radar is pictured here with his handler, Officer Sam Bell, as well as Janeen Baggette, the founder of K9's For Freedom & Independence. This non-profit organization takes dogs that are from shelters, rescues, or donated, and trains them to be CIRT K9s for law enforcement and first responder agencies. Radar is a valuable addition to our department that was 100% funded by grants and donations. He will provide support for students, veterans, victims, first responders, and the entire community of Odessa. We are committed to providing compassionate crisis intervention and effective stress management services to empower individuals facing difficult circumstances. And Radar will play a significant role in our efforts. Welcome to Odessa Radar!"
